GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 720323
fix tab styling
Last modified: 2021-06-10 20:38:33 UTC
The new gtk+/gnome-themes-standard master's GtkNotebook styling looks atrociously bad. Need to find either a way to undo that, or switch to a new tab widget that draws real tabs.
Seems the change comes from bug 707922.
Tab styling is still work in progress. Could you explain what you don't like about it? Also, maybe file bugs against gnome-themes-standard?
I think it both doesn't look good, and it has usability problems: * The previous tabs look was familiar to users. Tabs are modelled on a real-life object: folders in a filing cabinet; and also that look is used (and continues to be used) by web browser, which are the most-often used programmes with tabs. The new look doesn't look like this at all; there's no indication that those even *are* tabs, or that you can switch by clicking on them. * Background tabs' tab label look like a disabled (insensitive) widget. Apart from that indicating to the user that they canNOT be clicked, it's also very hard to even *read* the text. Really, light grey background with a just slightly darker grey text‽ * The active tab indicator is now simply a dark blue line below its tab label. * No separation between each tab. This makes it hard to see where one ends and the next starts, and to which tab the close button belongs to.
