GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 719832
Keyboard navigation to/from submenus should be consistent with the rest of the platform
Last modified: 2014-04-28 23:31:23 UTC
Dear Developers, In my Ubuntu 14.04 development system I using Gnome Shell 3.8 classic mode session. When I activate the Top bar with ALT+F1 keystroke, first presenting the applications menu. Everithing is accessible with Orca 3.10.1 and master branch version, main categoryes Orca right spokening, but I found an interesting problem. If I goto for example the Graphics category (grafika hungarian category) and press right arrow, Orca doesn't the first item spokening. I verifyed what happening if I press this situation two up arrow keys. This situation the caret jump perfect with the first submenu item. Because I only using with screen reader and I entire not seeing the screen, anybody have possibility verify me visualy what happening following testcase after logged in GNOME Shell classic session? 1. Activate top bar with ALT+F1 keystroke. This situation the applications menu will get focus. 2. Jump down arrow key the Graphics submenu. 3. Press right arrow key. This situation me Orca says the Simple Scan application selected. Visualy highlighted too this menu item? Expected result this step: the first awailable menu item in the scrolled down category need highlighting. Actual result: except favorites menu always the last menu item the default selected menu item after I press right arrow a category. 4. Press Left arrow key after you press two up arrow. This situation the caret not jumping right the Graphics group, I usual land the Favorites group. If I press only one up arrow before I press a right arrow, lands different group. Previous I reported only this problem with Orca level the bug 711821 report. I reproduced this problem with GNOME 3.10 classic session. Attila
Created attachment 263513 [details] Video record the wrote testcase This is a video file with hopefuly showing what happening visualy if I using the keyboard navigation the applications menu. I hope seeing the entire window and the actual selected menu item when I dropdowning several time the graphics category, using up and down arrow keys more time and press final the left arrow key. Attila
Unfortunately I not have possibility to verify this testcase the gnome-shell-extension master branch version my Ubuntu 14.04 system. If anybody have possibility verify the wrote testcase the master branch version, please look the testcase result. Attila
Changing the summary as this has nothing to do with Orca. And the fix is to make the "classic" session's menus work like everything else. gtk3-demo's Application Class demo would be a good comparison. But for the sake of this bug report, the problem is that getting into and out of submenus (via right and left arrow respectively) moves you to the nearest available menu item at the same y coordinate. Instead: 1. Right should move you to the first menu item in the submenu. 2. Left should move you back to the parent menu you had been in before pressing right. This is confirmed in GNOME 3.10 (F20).
