GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 713727
Support displaying additional detail from message header
Last modified: 2021-07-05 13:26:52 UTC
---- Reported by adam@yorba.org 2012-01-13 10:30:00 -0800 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 4602 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4602 Searchable id: yorba-bug-4602 Original author: Adam Dingle Original description: It would be nice if the user could expand or contract the message headers (e.g. From, To, Cc) for each message in a conversation. We should probably display headers in contracted form by default. Update: a user has asked below that Geary also display the original time and timezone when expanded. Related issues: related to geary - 6071: always show the 'To:' header (Fixed) ---- Additional Comments From geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-04-03 18:26:00 -0700 ---- ### History #### #1 Updated by Nate Lillich over 1 year ago * **Assignee** set to _Nate Lillich_ #### #2 Updated by Christian Dywan over 1 year ago Does "contract" mean "simplify" here? I imagine labels for From, To, CC, Subject could easily be omitted, the addresses merged and something like x-mailer left to the expanded view. If that's the plan I'm looking forward to it. #### #3 Updated by Adam Dingle over 1 year ago Christian: yes, that's the plan, more or less. We could either allow the user to expand/contract the headers, or just display them in a popup like Gmail does. #### #4 Updated by Adam Dingle over 1 year ago * **Assignee** deleted (<strike>_Nate Lillich_</strike>) #### #5 Updated by Jim Nelson over 1 year ago * **Category** set to _client_ Also worth considering in this design is Stuart Langridge's proposal for an "SMS mode". Although such a mode is not the intent of this ticket, some of his thoughts on how that mode would look (elements of the messages that are removed or hidden) might help conserve space and fit in the spirit of this ticket. The thread starts here: http://lists.yorba.org/pipermail/geary/2012-August/000037.html #### #6 Updated by Andrea Corbellini about 1 year ago May I suggest to show the Date: line with the original timezone when the headers are expanded? #### #7 Updated by Jim Nelson about 1 year ago * **Description** updated (diff) * **Target version** set to _0.3.0_ That's worth considering. We'll see how it looks when we attack this ticket. #### #8 Updated by Jim Nelson 9 months ago * **Target version** changed from _0.3.0_ to _0.4.0_ #### #9 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago * **Target version** changed from _0.4.0_ to _0.5.0_ --- Bug imported by chaz@yorba.org 2013-11-21 20:22 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 4602 at http://redmine.yorba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4602 Unknown milestone "unknown in product geary. Setting to default milestone for this product, "---". Setting qa contact to the default for this product. This bug either had no qa contact or an invalid one. Resolution set on an open status. Dropping resolution
Implementing this would also allow us to not show the Subject by default, which would great.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
