GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 707684
Windows Live doesn't exist anymore
Last modified: 2015-03-26 19:46:15 UTC
In GNOME Online Accounts you can select "Windows Live". However, Windows Live has been discontinued and no longer exists. So this entry should probably be renamed to "Microsoft Account".
I know that they deprecated their XMPP endpoint in favour of Skype, but what do you mean by "Windows Live has been discontinued"? Can you point me to the URL?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live "Windows Live was the collective brand name for a set of services and software products from Microsoft; part of their software plus services platform. In April 2013, the website was closed down." "The Windows Live brand was phased out during August 2012; coinciding with the RTM of Windows 8." Now it is just called "Microsoft account", I guess. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_account
I see. There was no single identity for what we call as Windows Live. eg., if you look at their icon you will see that they a mix of the butterfly and Windows logos. This is why we don't ship an icon for it. So this confusion is nothing new. :-) Regarding the website being closed down, I can still use https://skydrive.live.com and https://login.live.com/. That said we could rename it to "Microsoft" or "Microsoft Account", but then we also have "Microsoft Exchange" in there, so having 2 "Microsoft ..." entries could be confusing. I don't know. Since we are in UI and String Freeze for 3.10 and things have always been a bit confusing on this front, I prefer not to change the name this late in the cycle. We can think of something for 3.12.
Created bug #710764 about the icon
Microsoft themselves call things that use this auth 'Microsoft Account'.
We are discussing the same thing in bug 710764 , but Andreas made some nice icons there,
