Description Dan Winship 2013-02-01 17:45:09 UTC
Apparently there used to be an options button on the hotspot details page, but it disappeared in the new UI, meaning there's no way to change the hotspot options.

(Ideally it seems to me that you ought to be able to edit them *before* the hotspot activates; your hostname might be something that you don't want to broadcast to everyone in the area, or alternatively something not obvious enough to the people you wanted it to be obvious too. Or it may conflict with another network name in the area.)

Additionally... the whole "default to the same options as last time without asking the user" means that the user gets locked into whatever the settings were the first time they used the hotspot functionality. Eg, if you ever created an Ad-Hoc hotspot, then you can't create an AP-mode hotspot now, and if you ever created a WEP hotspot, you won't be able to create a WPA hotspot when that's possible (bug 678287). Also, with WPA you'd be able to use real passwords rather than needing to use hex for compatibility, so we might want to let the user specify that.

That would be fixed by implementing bug 735911.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new bug report at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
