GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 692648
Backspace key doesn't offer well-known "up" action anymore
Last modified: 2015-05-30 09:02:33 UTC
You used to be able to press "backspace" in nautilus, and go "up" one level. This doesn't seem to work anymore, and there's no evidence of a way to customize your own shortcuts for nautilus. I search in dconf-editor for some setting, but wasn't able to find one. Thanks! James
Found out that adding: (gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/ShellActions/Up" "BackSpace") to ~/.config/nautilus/accels fixes this. This is a workaround for the desperate until this can get fixed. HTH, James
To avoid confusion with just-type search, the keybinding is Alt-Up in 3.6. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 679822 ***

I also don't understand the confusion with just-type search. Would you be able to expand slightly or at least point me to a mailing list thread or something? Thanks!

I cannot as I am no Nautilus developer. > I also don't understand the confusion with just-type search. Would you be able > to expand slightly or at least point me to a mailing list thread or something? You can just type to start a search, just like in gnome-shell. Probably best to ask on https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/nautilus-list for more info.
