Description Ruchir Brahmbhatt 2012-11-08 11:30:41 UTC
Evolution: 3.6.1
OS: opensuse 12.2 i686

Right click any mail in sent and select edit as new message.

or

Save draft and open it.

It appends signature again at the end of message so there are 2 signatures in email while composing. So we need to delete one of them every time this is followed.

Thanks for a bug report. I thought this was fixed by bug #684249, as your issue sounds just the same as that one, but the fix is supposed to be in 3.6.1+, while you wrote above that you use the 3.6.1.
Comment 2 Milan Crha 2012-11-13 16:49:03 UTC
I see now that what you have is different. I'm afraid the "Edit as New" in a Sent folder never worked, it would be interesting if it did, but it should work in the Drafts folder, though I see that the message in Drafts folder doesn't have both variants, Plain text and HTML, while in that HTML is stored a hint which part the signature is.

I suppose Dan has something for this in his new composer already, thus I'm CC'ing him here.

Downstream bug report about the same:

Comment 4 Bojan Smojver 2013-07-08 23:32:14 UTC
I see the same behaviour for Drafts and Sent Items. Extra empty line at the top and an additional signature.
Comment 5 Ankur Sinha (FranciscoD) 2013-09-05 08:33:38 UTC
Still persists in 3.8.5

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1004635

evolution-ews-3.8.5-2.fc19.x86_64
evolution-3.8.5-2.fc19.x86_64
evolution-data-server-3.8.5-4.fc19.x86_64
evolution-help-3.8.5-2.fc19.noarch

Happens at least when:

- you forward a message from sent items
- "edit as new" from sent items
- edit a draft to send it

Could someone please update the version in the bug to 3.8.x? It still says 3.6.

Thanks.
Ankur

This bug still exists in version 3.6.4 and 3.10.2.

Happens when:
Let's say i save a draft message, and later open it for editing it will add the signature again to the draft mail and will do as many times you save the draft after that.

Is there any resolution for this bug.

Regards
Arif

Still seems to happen with 3.12.2 (current Fedora Rawhide), though it also seems to be not remembering what sender identity the mail should be using, which confuses things. This also affects recovery of unfinished messages on restart of Evolution.

Note that as well as the duplicated signatures, Evo inserts a couple of extraneous newlines, one at the very top of the message, one above the (last) signature.

Hi, is this still a problem in a recent Evolution version (currently 3.38)? Asking as some parts of the code base and underlying dependencies changed in the meantime.

Hi André

Thanks for reaching out - I didn't see the issue in current versions and believe we can close this issue.

Thanks a lot and all the best,
Nicolas

Yeah, I don't recall seeing it lately either.
