Description Justin 2012-09-21 05:50:35 UTC
In Files (3.5.92), there is no way to search within a folder and its subfolders. The new search only search within the current directory.

Please fix it.

That bug is about caching the search results. AFAIK nothing to do with subfolder searching. Sorry, but I don't see any relation between these two bugs.

Did you meant some other bug, may be?
Comment 3 Justin 2012-09-21 11:38:54 UTC
I don't see any other bugs. Reopened. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Searching for filenames in subfolders works fine for me in 3.5.92.
Tried searching in "Home" and I get the results in Pictures/foo.

Cannot reproduce the problem.
Comment 5 Justin 2012-09-22 05:33:12 UTC
I am using ubuntu gnome remix 12.10 alpha2 with shell/files 3.5.92.

I don't get any pictures from my Picture folder in search. Not just pictures, I don't get videos from Videos or downloaded files from Downloads. Basically nothing, since I don't have any files in home.

I do have an ebooks directory (not in Home but in a different partition which is automounted). When I serach, I only get the folders, not the actual ebooks (which are under those subfolders)

Are you suggesting this is ubuntu specific?
Comment 6 André Klapper 2012-09-22 08:45:36 UTC
I don't know. :) It's just that I don't see this problem here so it could be something specific with the distribution.
Comment 7 Cosimo Cecchi 2012-09-22 14:33:57 UTC
It's not a distribution issue: recursive search doesn't work for directories which are not indexed by Tracker, which is why Andre can find files from Pictures or Videos, but you don't see results from your ebook directory which is out of the default set of locations Tracker indexes.

I closed this bug as a duplicate of bug 325146 since that's a pre-requisite of this, and is listed as the reference bug for recursive search in our roadmap for 3.8 [1]. I'm going to re-title it to better explain what that bug is about, sorry for the confusion.

As a temporary workaround, you can add your ebook directory to the list of locations indexed by Tracker.
