GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 683735
No "Create empty file" option when there are zero templates
Last modified: 2014-06-15 11:41:27 UTC
As described in Fix 676838, the "new document" menu is not shown if no templates are installed. Unfortunately, it's not possible anymore to create an empty file (even though, it's possible to create an empty folder) if no templates are installed.
Bug 676838 and bug 324253 explain why this is not a good idea...if you want you can add a template to your ~/Templates directory and get it back, but I don't think we want to revisit that choice.
In that case, would not it be more consistent to entirely remove the "New empty file" of the "New Document" menu? It's weird to see that adding a single template creates two items in the "New Document" menu.
Same problem here. I added an "Empty Document" template and now the "New Document" menu entry carries two "Empty Document" entries, while the correct behaviour would be to show only one entry. In case you keep the WONTFIX, is there any way to remove the automatic menu entry?
(In reply to comment #3) The duplicate Empty Document has been removed in the development version: http://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=9323dde5c0f06b048b1daaf2cc683991d6b7d076 The fix will be available in the next major software release.
