This modem seems to be a mixed 3GPP+3GPP2 modem, implementing both CDMA1x/EV-DO connections *and* GSM/WCDMA. ModemManager 0.5 and 0.6 don't know how to handle these devices properly; it defaults them to CDMA-mode always.

So, either you need GSM/WCDMA instead, just a possibility, or we need a new plugin to handle devices with this Via Telecom chipset, so that we know how to get registration status and all that. You don't happen to have an AT command reference for that modem, do you?
