I have configured Empathy with Facebook and Gmail just after installing Ubuntu 12.04. It worked flawlessly for few days and one fine day it crashed. After that when ever I am opening Empathy it is failing to connect to Gmail and Facebook ( I have not checked any other IM services). After the crash I removed my account configurations and added once again but still facing the same issue ( I am using correct password)

I have also removed the configuration files from : /home/abhijeet/.gconf/apps/empathy and reinstalled empathy get all the configuration in fresh but still faceing the same issue.

Please check the attached screen shot

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
Package: empathy 3.4.1-0ubuntu1

Upstream Empathy does not use gconf anymore, but dconf instead.

Humm maybe a proxy issue. Check if you have any proxy configured in GNOME's settings and unset it if needed.

Is telepathy-gabble crashing?

I have the same problem, but in my case also Hotmail isn't working.
In addition I've noticed that installing extensions from extensions.gnome.org doesn't work.

If I connect from home, where I don't use any proxy, everything works.
With Ubuntu 11.10 everything was working fine even connecting through the proxy!
So, in my opinion, there is something wrong with proxy, but I cannot understand what...

@Guillaume Desmottes,
I am not using any proxy. I am using my linux box at home. Can you please tell how to check if "telepathy-gabble" is crashing or not.
