GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 672402
Cursor sometimes disappears when changing workspaces with some window managers
Last modified: 2015-02-03 16:25:21 UTC
What it says on the tin. The text can still be manipulated; you just can't see the cursor. Currently, I'm using pekwm. I'm able to reproduce the issue by "tabbing over" to Thunderbird, then back to gedit. I've got an old GeForce FX 5500 with the nouveau drivers. I'm on the i686 version of Arch linux, so I've got the latest stable versions of everything.
Can you test with a more recent version of gedit? Do you use the Adwaita theme?
Hi. Since I made this bug report, that old computer finally died. I've got a new one (finally one capable of running GNOME 3, woo! Love it.), but as a consequence I can't test that this is a problem using the exact same hardware. I installed pekwm and gave it a try on this computer, but didn't see the problem anymore. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
It is unlikely a hardware problem. I'll thus close this bug report. Feel free to reopen it if you have more information.
Just for posteriority, I'm also having this issue and it's related to the WM (I'm using awesome for example). Seems related to: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=171595
Seems to be a bug with the cursor plugin of gnome-settings-daemon.
That may be a separate issue. When I made the report, I'm pretty sure I was talking only about the text cursor in gedit. I'm sorry I wasn't more specific. Feel free to continue; I just don't want to be the cause of anyone flipping between Thunderbird and Gedit looking for the mouse to disappear and getting confused.
