GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 658458
Cursor sometimes disappears when changing workspaces with some window managers
Last modified: 2020-11-24 09:57:11 UTC
Hello, i'm using wmaker as window manager so this bug probably need confirmation with other window managers too. After opening gedit, a normal cursor is blinking. When switching to another desktop and back to the gedit one, ythat cursor totally disappeared. Except for that, input is a usual, but you're typing kind of blindly. Besides, with large screens, the cursor always was kind of tiny, and a configuration option to change color and size would be welcome... This is Debian Linux 'Sid', here are some debian package versions: gedit 3.0.6-2 gedit-common 3.0.6-2 gedit-plugins 3.0.6-1 libgtk-3-0 3.0.12-1 python 2.6.7-3 python-gnome2 2.28.1-3 python2.5 2.5.5-11 python2.6 2.6.7-4 python3.1 3.1.3-1 python3.2 3.2.2~rc1-1 gconf2 2.32.4-1 gir1.2-gconf-2.0 2.32.4-1 libc6 2.13-18 wmaker 0.92.0-8.2+b1 nvidia-glx 280.13-1 nvidia-kernel-3.0.0-1-amd64 280.13-1+3.0.0-2 xserver-xorg-core 2:1.10.4-1 hth mi
I've had this problem for years too, across plenty of distros. I'm also using WindowMaker.
This also happens with the Awesome window manager.
This also happens to me with dwm and wmii, but not with xfce4 on the same system.

For me, this solves it (using Awesome WM): dconf write /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/cursor/active false In any case, I don't think this is a gedit specific issue?

Mass-closing of all gedit bugzilla tickets. Special "code" to find again all those gedit bugzilla tickets that were open before the mass-closing: 2bfe1b0590a78457e1f1a6a90fb975f5878cb60064ccfe1d7db76ca0da52f0f3 By searching the above sha256sum in bugzilla, the gedit contributors can find again the tickets. We may be interested to do so when we work on a specific area of the code, to at least know the known problems and possible enhancements. We do this mass-closing because bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org.
