See attached screenshot.

There are scroll buttons on the top and the bottom.
Comment 2 Hubert Figuiere (:hub) 2012-01-22 19:04:09 UTC
That does not make it right. There shouldn't be.
Comment 3 André Klapper 2012-01-22 21:17:13 UTC
Why not? Or what would you remove? Not yet a very useful bug report...
Comment 4 Hubert Figuiere (:hub) 2012-01-22 21:25:21 UTC
Reorganizing the menu would be a start. I don't know I'm not part of the design team that seems to be ruling anything. Nor have I thought about it.

Moving the 4 Create XXXX at the bottom somewhere would be enough.
"Remove Duplicate Messages" would belong to the Folder menu
"Check for Junk" too.

But maybe I should just even stop filing bugs if you just kick people like that when they report issues, it seems to be pretty vain to bother.

Same problem for context menu in the message list pane.

I see - adding ui-review keyword.

> Moving the 4 Create XXXX at the bottom somewhere would be enough.

+1 - even if it's into a submenu, maybe together with "Create Rule".

> "Check for Junk" too.

Both are just applied to selected messages and not to the complete folder... :-/

> But maybe I should just even stop filing bugs if you just kick people like that

I don't think that I kicked anybody, it just wasn't clear to me whether your issue is any potentially better solution for smaller screens or just decreasing the number of entries in that menu.

For the records:
The context menu of Evo 2.0.x had about 20 items so 2.2 had a rewrite.
2.3.2 also had a main menu rewrite (see dobey's commits on 2005-05-13).
Might be time to do that again partially.

I agree with the bug report.

A menu that is this long is inherently difficult to use, since it gives people a lot to process and makes it hard to find the item that they are looking for. That the menu has to be scrolled on some screens exacerbates these problems.

You could redesign the menu. There are some items in there that I would describe as odd (Compose New Message, Go To), and there are others that could be made into submenus or into menus in their own right (Reply, Forward, Create a..., Filters). There are also some that look esoteric or could be rethought (Filters, Junk, Remove Attachments, Remove Duplicates, Create Rule, Mailing List).

If only it were. ;)

It is better in 3.5.4 thanks to bug 678397.
Comment 8 Milan Crha 2015-04-29 12:58:31 UTC
Evolution 3.12.x/3.16.x has there 20 items, which fits into the screen (according to your screenshot). I prefer freedom, thus I'm not going to limit users by removing any menu options. If it looks "hard to find the right item", then believe or not images beside items help a lot in this regard, but "the design team" decided to not use them. So... My opinion only.
Comment 9 Hubert Figuiere (:hub) 2015-04-29 13:03:30 UTC
As of 3.16 it indeed fits.
