Description Bastián Díaz 2011-11-02 02:24:09 UTC
I wonder if it is possible to implement a search box in the user interface of Nautilus.

1. Pressing the Search button displays a search box at the bottom and occupying the full width of the folder view.
2. When you enter the search text appears on the bottom "other options" that occupies a "greater" than the search box.
3. In the "optional", you can add another option which in turn increases the size of space occupied.

In my opinion, the space occupied and additional options presented are unnecessary. I have the belief that the searches carried out by Nautilus are basic (if required an advanced search option is the recently opened files through Shell, search through gnome-search-tool, use the GUI for tracker or use Gnome-journal-activity).

-First, the width of the search box is not justified because from this point of view, the terms used in the search are short.

Moreover, additional options displayed by default (if it finds the file in that folder or in another) or search by type are not necessary. Usually you dig through the file system searching through folders, and when the file is not found, the search within that folder. (you can find to add to the file name like this type "*. odp" or show the search as a list, grouping search by file type)

I propose that nautilus only use a small search box (as used in the gnome control center) and that by default, always search for files inside the folder where we are, listing the search results and grouped by type.

OS: Fedora 16 (Verne)
Environment: Gnome 3.2.1

I understand what he says in the explanation of the search in Nautilus, however, I was referring more to a review of the search interface, based on my opinion.
Understanding a bit like finding work, even the interface is handled seems inappropriate for the space used (using a nautilus window, with tabs and do a search on a netbook, it's complicated).
My idea that advanced search is optional nautilus by default, so in the event of a "search box" next there is a button to operate the search options (name, location search, search sub-folders, file type) and if you use the devil tracker to locate the term within the files.
