Picture of the described behaviour.

I'm using Debian Testing with Gnome3 installed from Unstable/Experimental
It happens very often, that the nm-applet icon shows the icon for offline-status allthough that i'm connected to the internet.

I'm connected to the internet via Android tethering (Azilink+Droid-Tether-SV) which causes this bug.

I forgot to mention, that i'm connected to the internet via mobile broadband with a Huawei Surfstick.

Interested in the conclusion of this bug. NetworkManager must be able to interact with a USB tether like azilink, but I do not know if it is possible currently to do so.

I find it particularly annoying because applications which rely on the status of NetworkManager to tell them if they are online or offline (e.g. Evolution) will refuse to go into "online" mode.

This issue seems to possibly be related to: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531351

Also, I'm having this issue regardless of which method is used to connect (Wireless, Wired or USB tethering).

Will add to existing bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=633916

Could it be that nm-applet is simply not receiving or acting on status notifcations?

Looks a lot like bug 726013 or bug 778833.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance.
We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time.

If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
