Description Joe Zeff 2011-08-10 23:19:05 UTC
I'm about to start getting Social Security payments by direct deposit on the third Wednesday of every month. I'd like to have GnuCash record these payments automatically, but there's no way to create a Scheduled Transaction to do this. I'm sure that I'm not the only person out there using GnuCash who needs to do this type of thing so I'd like to ask the devs to add it. (Just to show that it can be done, the ReminderFox add-on for Thunderbird already has this ability.)
Comment 1 Bruce Leary 2011-09-21 15:48:29 UTC
I requested the same capability in Bug RFE 509652. That requested was closed as WONTFIX. I would still like the capability added.

I too would like to see this enhancement, coincidentally for the same reason. I believe there must be a lot of GnuCash users receiving Social Security checks on a similar schedule.

I developed a fix for this a couple of years ago. It's in the trunk of SVN, but not in the release versions. If you compile what's on SVN trunk it will work. At least it does for me. You can specify any Nth day of the Month.
Comment 5 Joe Zeff 2013-02-06 19:07:26 UTC
So there's been a a fix for this for several years, but the Gnome devs can't be bothered to add it to the release version. I see. No wonder people like me who think things like this should Just Work without having to compile from scratch are leaving Gnome as fast as they can.
Comment 6 Mike Evans 2013-02-07 12:26:16 UTC
Rich I assume you mean Bug 650598?

Joe Zeff: GnuCash development is nothing to do with Gnome. This was a major code change and these are not included in minor releases.

Since this bug was filed after 650598 can I mark this as a duplicate of that and close it?

It will be in the next major release, 2.6 sometime this year.

Comment 8 Joe Zeff 2013-02-07 18:34:28 UTC
My point is still valid: if there's been a fix available for several years, why haven't the people in charge either added it to the code base or put a comment on this bug that there's already a patch in the works? As is, it gives the impression that the devs don't care what the people using the program actually want.
Comment 9 John Ralls 2017-09-24 22:40:54 UTC
Reassign version to 2.4.x so that individual 2.4 versions can be retired.
