Empathy should have an option whereby I can configure it such that when my PC decides it's idle Empathy sets my status to 'away'.

It'd be really nice to be able to have an auto-invisible triggered by same.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04
Package: empathy 2.34.0-0ubuntu3.1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2
Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic x86_64

Auto-away is now done by gnome-shell as well. If we want such option it should probably be part of it as well as we are moving to a less empathy centric IM experience (see bug #653938 for example).

It already does that automatically, it does not require an option.

Why?
When you're away from the computer, you are by definition... away. Not invisible.

The invisible status is for when you decide to be online to see who's online but to not be contacted by anyone. It is a manual choice. If it is auto-triggered, then it does not make any difference compared to fully "offline" because you are not physically present to see the difference anyway. And auto-IM-offline does not make sense, at this point you're online, away or your computer is auto-suspended (offline).

I'm not a gnome-shell developer, but I tend to think this is a case of "wontfix" because the presence is already handled as intended (except bug #642408).

Additionally I'd lean towards closing this bug because it was reported on 2.34, and it works as expected on 3.2

Sure, please do... ;-)
