There is no sense on enabling dual mode when the file only contains one page. I think evince should automatically disable dual mode in that specific cases.

To be honest, I don't quite agree with the request. Sometimes it is convenient to use dual mode even for a single page document. For example, you may want to read the page from the left corners of your screen, and not from the center of the screen. 

You can of course do that by resizing the window and moving it to the left side of the screen, but that takes a long time, compared to just selecting dual mode.
