I am running the latest (19 Feb 2011) gnome-shell from git on Ubuntu 10.10,
and I get peculiar screen corruption. The majority of the screen (about 95%) is inverted and i can;t do enything...if i waiting some minutes the screen returns for a few seconds.

There are two relevant bugs, Bug #639144 and Bug #640632.

When I change graphic card drivers all works perfect!The version is:
