Hi folks,

I'm struggling with an annoying issue regarding Tomboy (v1.4.2 under Ubuntu 10.10).

For instance, when I make a new note called "Superman", the word "Superman" will be linked to this note in my other notes. When I delete the note "Superman", the word "Superman" will look like a grey link in all other notes, and not blue as before, when the note with the title "Superman" was available.

Normally it's enough to delete and rewrite the grey link, but there are cases when a quite common word is grey so it's quite demanding to rewrite each word by hand.

How can I set up tomboy, so that no grey link would appear, when a note with a linked title is deleted?

Compare two pictures for clarification.

Actually, the bug I said this is a dupe of is about adding a feature to clean up broken links, and there is an actual add-in provided at the end of the bug that will probably end up in upstream Tomboy soon.

If you instead want the whole concept of broken links to be configurable so that they never exist in the first place, that would be a different bug. Feel free to re-open this and change the summary if that's what you want.

Hi Sandy,

The addin for repairing broken links is really appreciated and I am looking forward to use it as fast as possible, when it will be available as "proved" addin.

By "end up in upstream" do you mean that the addin will be included in the next release of tomboy or after it's officially available, that you have to download it manually to use it with tomboy?

Of course it would be nice not to have any dead links in the first place, therefore I will adapt my request.

Btw, I don't know how to reopen the request, but it's clear from the title, that it would be nice that dead links should not appear in the first place.

Bear with me as I re-open...

Information on how to get Alex's broken link removal add-in is available here: http://lists.beatniksoftware.com/pipermail/tomboy-list-beatniksoftware.com/2011-January/001974.html

When I say "end up in upstream", I mean that Alex's add-in would ship in a future Tomboy release, and either be enabled by default or require you to enable it in the Add-in Preferences tab. The only reason that hasn't happened yet is because I'm behind in patch review for the past few months.

I did read his code awhile back, though, and it seemed pretty safe. Go ahead and back up your note directory and give it a try and let him know if you run into any issues. :-)

An option (maybe a "hidden" one) for never having broken links would be a nice feature for some folks. Updated summary a bit more.
