GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 634825
file size format is GiB not GB
Last modified: 2010-11-14 17:46:16 UTC
""" in the nautilus, in Properties dialoge it says GB for the file size . but infact it is showing the file size as GiB . so either change the file size format to GiB or change the appendix to GiB. GiB (Geby Byte) is a standard that was defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in December 1998. More Information on this bug : to test this , you can try to burn a folder that nautilus shows as 4.5 GB [which can fit on a bank 4.7GB DVD] but you will see it wont fit , because infact the folder size is not is not 4.5 GB . and it is 4.5 GiB . Nautilus measures the filesize GiB (binary Giga byte), but by mistake it shows as GB (Decimal Giga Byte) """ originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/589217
There really wasn't any reason to open yet another bug for this; this has been discussed already several times --- e.g. bug 110800, bug 303204, bug 427807 and all of the dups of these. The master bug is glib bug 554172. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 110800 ***
