Description Dennis Cranston 2005-05-06 05:21:38 UTC
Nautilus displays file sizes units of KB, MB, and GB.
Gnome-system-monitor displays size units of KiB, MiB, and GiB.

Gnome-system-monitor should match nautilus.
Comment 1 Benoît Dejean 2005-05-06 08:15:50 UTC
Standard Units are SI. Nautilus is wrong. But Nautilus-CD-Burner is right.

See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301838
Comment 2 Dennis Cranston 2005-05-06 15:58:45 UTC
I disagree with the comment above. But since you said it is a bug in nautilus,
then I am reassigning to the nautilus component.
Comment 3 Olav Vitters 2005-05-06 16:05:49 UTC
see bug 110800.. if you want this changed in Nautilus, it is a dupe.
Comment 4 Benoît Dejean 2005-05-06 16:27:39 UTC
it's not a bug and it's not in nautilus. You asked for gnome-system-monitor to
match nautilus. gnome-system-monitor matches nautilus-cd-burner which uses SI
units, which is the RIGHT thing to do.
Comment 5 Olav Vitters 2005-05-06 16:46:23 UTC
Benot: Nautilus-cd-burner isn't the same as Nautilus. Nautilus-cd-burner uses
MiB etc in the burn dialog, but not in the CD/DVD creator 'place' (using list
view -- as that is Nautilus). Nautilus uses MB (which I like).
I believe Dennis now wants this changed in Nautilus. If so, it is a dupe of bug
110800.
PS: Your name is displayed incorrectly. Could you please change in again in the
preferences (so it is stored as UTF-8)? Bugzilla didn't do that before, but
should now.
Comment 6 Dennis Cranston 2005-05-06 19:19:16 UTC
What I believe is that the displayed units should be consistant in nautilus,
gnome-search-tool, file-roller, gnome-system-monitor, and nautilus-cd-burner.
Using for example "MB" in some applications and "MiB" in anothers could confuse
users.
Comment 7 Sebastien Bacher 2005-05-07 21:16:05 UTC
I'm closing it as a dup of #110800. Same discussion as #301838 too.
