GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 303204
Non-Standard File Size Units
Last modified: 2008-09-26 15:22:44 UTC
Nautilus displays file sizes units of KB, MB, and GB. Gnome-system-monitor displays size units of KiB, MiB, and GiB. Gnome-system-monitor should match nautilus.
Standard Units are SI. Nautilus is wrong. But Nautilus-CD-Burner is right. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301838
I disagree with the comment above. But since you said it is a bug in nautilus, then I am reassigning to the nautilus component.
see bug 110800.. if you want this changed in Nautilus, it is a dupe.
it's not a bug and it's not in nautilus. You asked for gnome-system-monitor to match nautilus. gnome-system-monitor matches nautilus-cd-burner which uses SI units, which is the RIGHT thing to do.
Benot: Nautilus-cd-burner isn't the same as Nautilus. Nautilus-cd-burner uses MiB etc in the burn dialog, but not in the CD/DVD creator 'place' (using list view -- as that is Nautilus). Nautilus uses MB (which I like). I believe Dennis now wants this changed in Nautilus. If so, it is a dupe of bug 110800. PS: Your name is displayed incorrectly. Could you please change in again in the preferences (so it is stored as UTF-8)? Bugzilla didn't do that before, but should now.
What I believe is that the displayed units should be consistant in nautilus, gnome-search-tool, file-roller, gnome-system-monitor, and nautilus-cd-burner. Using for example "MB" in some applications and "MiB" in anothers could confuse users.
I'm closing it as a dup of #110800. Same discussion as #301838 too. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 110800 ***
