Description Will Thompson 2010-11-11 18:02:18 UTC
I have several copies of Jonny in my roster (one for work, one for non-work, one for link-local XMPP, and one for Facebook that I haven't merged yet). When I search for Jonny, all four show up (as they should), and the first is selected (as it should be). The → in this (abridged) diagram shows the selected row:

  Collabora ▽
→ ◉ Jonny Lamb
  ☃ People Nearby ▽
   ◉ Jonny Lamb
  Ungrouped ▽
   ⊗ Jonny Lamb

  [Jonny ×]

But when I hit the down arrow, the focus moves to the People Nearby group header:

  Collabora ▽
   ◉ Jonny Lamb
→ ☃ People Nearby ▽
   ◉ Jonny Lamb
  Ungrouped ▽
   ⊗ Jonny Lamb

  [Jonny ×]

I think it should move to the next matching contact:

  Collabora ▽
   ◉ Jonny Lamb
  ☃ People Nearby ▽
→ ◉ Jonny Lamb
  Ungrouped ▽
   ⊗ Jonny Lamb

  [Jonny ×]

Nice bug report :)

I'm not sure tbh, having a different behaviour depending if you are in a search or not seems confusing to me. Also, some people want to be able to hide/show groups using they keyboard, see bug #632787
Comment 2 Will Thompson 2010-11-12 12:30:21 UTC
I don't think anyone will ever notice the difference in behaviour unless they're looking, tbh. :)
Comment 3 Guillaume Desmottes 2010-11-17 12:50:02 UTC
I guess you're right.
Comment 4 Will Thompson 2011-03-14 12:40:32 UTC
Apparently I accidentally marked this as critical somehow?
Comment 5 Daniel Stone 2011-05-20 11:25:51 UTC
tbh, is selecting groups from the keyboard ever useful in general?
Comment 6 Will Thompson 2011-05-20 11:30:47 UTC
I think selecting groups with the keyboard while not searching is conceivably useful (for accessibility reasons if nothing else).

I don't think collapsing groups during a search makes much sense: after all, we forcibly open all groups when the user starts searching. Maybe they should become visibly insensitive?
