GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 633372
Add a "best fit" magnifier icon/button to make the zooming slider more discoverable
Last modified: 2011-03-22 16:21:58 UTC
Created attachment 173406 [details] screenshot Adding a "magnifier" icon on the left of the slider may be a good way to provide a visual clue of what the slider is used for. Some users may not know what it does (or not even notice it). A single icon like that would use less space than a text label or using two icons (+ and -).
Created attachment 173407 [details] mockup Actually, now that I think of it, we could kill two birds with one stone if we make that icon a button, and connect the button to the _set_best_zoom_ratio method. Not only would the button's icon give an indication of what the adjacent slider does, but users could click the button to reset the zoom to "fit the timeline".
Implemented, along with the menu item, in my zoom_fit_button branch.
