Description Stuart Jansen 2010-07-14 23:09:27 UTC
Evince defaults to displaying PDFs in continuous mode. There isn't even a gconf setting to change this behavior. I will probably go on a murderous rampage soon as a result.

For work, I am constantly working with new and different PDFs in a mixture of portrait and landscape. It does me no good that Evince remember the display settings for a PDF if the majority of PDFs I open have never been opened before. I hate continuous mode. It is awkward. It slows me down as I spot check the PDF.

Acroread is bloated and ugly. Evince is light, fast and pre-installed. I really want to use it, but every time I start to page through a document I'm reminded yet again that the Evince developers hate me.

Once upon a time Evince used to know have these things called "preferences" that allowed me to customize its behaviour. Please, sir, may we have them back? I'd even settle for something hidden behind gconf-editor. Think of the kittens! And office furniture! And my co-workers!
