Originally reported by Timo Laine on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601949:

To my knowledge I have not done anything in particular to cause this behavior and I do not know how to reproduce it, but on reaching the end of the play queue, Banshee does not stop but plays the last track again and again. It then opens up a dialog titled "Banshee Encountered a Fatal Error" with the following content:

An unhandled exception was thrown: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Comment 1 Mike 2010-07-16 16:34:21 UTC
I can confirm this problem. For me, what happens is it will finish the play queue, I'll go back to the main window and start something playing, and then it will return to the play queue after each song, until I clear the play queue manually.

This, even though it already played all the songs in the play queue.

Comment 3 Paul Balm 2010-08-22 13:40:18 UTC
I have the same problem though I don't encounter it when reaching the end of a playlist but when importing a large number of songs, while listening to a stream from the internet simultaneously (probably unrelated?).

I have the songs on a mounted network drive and I'm importing them from $HOME/.gvfs/[share name]. The number of songs is about 4,000.

The crash seems to be reproducible always.

I've attached the Banshee log file. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit on Intel CPU.

I had a quick look at the log: It says something about an iPod, which indeed I have plugged in. It also says it can't find NetworkManager, which is because I uninstalled it (bloody nightmare), and neither can it find wicd. I use a simple shell script to connect to my network. But Banshee sees my network because I'm listening to a stream from the internet right now.

I have the same problem (well same as Mike describes in Comment #1 anyway, no crashes).

Comment #3: I don't think this has anything to do with streaming or network access: just plain ogg's or mp3's. Perhaps you have a different bug.
Comment 5 Alex Bennée 2011-02-17 12:21:03 UTC
I can confirm I'm experiencing this bug too on Banshee 1.9.3 (Ubuntu PPA). To reproduce just add some songs to the play queue. Once it finishes the play queue it will return to the main display and then ping-pong between a new song on the main display and the last queued track. The last track in the play queue is never marked as played.
Comment 6 Alex Bennée 2011-02-17 12:26:12 UTC
It seems bug 632026 is also a duplicate of this bug.
Comment 7 André Klapper 2020-03-17 08:50:52 UTC
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect
reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project
to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the
responsibility for active development again.
See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
