GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 619529
Inconsistent keyboard focus with Nautilus File Search (e.g. Ctrl+A)
Last modified: 2012-08-23 09:24:12 UTC
Copying over the original description as that explains the problem pretty well: "First open a search box in Nautilus (with for example Ctrl-F.) Type something in it. Then use Ctrl-A. The result is that the files in the nautilus file section are selected, in stead of the text you just typed (and for example wanted to retype.) Then... Execute the search action. Click in the middle of your search text (the search text is deselected.) Use Ctrl-A. The result is that the search text is selected. Which is as far as I am concerned the correct result. Yet The first and second result are inconsistent. I would like if the behavior in the first case was changed." What makes the problem even more confusing is that even though Ctrl+A selects all items in the view, pressing enter doesn't execute Nautilus' default actions for the selected items, but instead starts the search. This bug was reported by Michiel Wittkampf on Launchpad in Ubuntu at <https://launchpad.net/bugs/523421>. This bug has been accepted as a papercut.
Confirmed. I can reproduce this. Ctrl-A should select the search text when the search box is selected. This report may become obsolete if we move to a permanent search box, mind. Thanks for the report.
Nautilus 3.1.4, in "Home" folder: 1. Ctrl+F 2. Small field in low right corner is shown 2. Enter "foo" 3. Ctrl+A 4. Text in small field is selected. Same happens when using the full search bar via "Go > Search for Files..." in the menu bar. => Closing as FIXED; please reopen if I got something wrong.
it's still buggy in 3.2
Thanks for the report, I pushed a fix for this to master now.
