GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 591300
When editing the file name, Shift-Delete should cut the selected text
Last modified: 2012-05-08 20:32:18 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 0. Select a file. 1. Press F2 to enter the edit mode. File name without extension should be selected. 2. Press Shift-Del to cut the selected text. What happens: Nautilus prompts to permanently delete the file. What should happen: The selection should be cut, Shift-Delete is a standard gnome shortcut: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/GtkTextView.html#GtkTextView-cut-clipboard Other info: This issue is different from bug 584710. I personally don't mind that Shift-Del permanently deletes selected files, but when editing file names the behaviour should be consistent with all other text editors.
The current behaviour is actually rather dangerous: I just accidentally deleted a folder that I just wanted to rename. While renaming, I wanted to remove all text from the current cursor position up to the end, so I held down Shift and pressed first End and then Remove, immediately followed by Return to end the edit mode. Not releasing Shift before pressing Remove therefor caused Nautilus to prompt me for deletion, and I accidentally confirmed this when pressing Return.
See bug #667962 for a similar issue.
