GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 619402
Search All Notes should be visually distinct from other notes in task bar
Last modified: 2017-07-31 12:37:04 UTC
By way of launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomboy/+bug/584420 It's a bit hard to find the Search All Notes function when I have a lot of notes open by just clicking on the task bar. This is true both when the tomboy notes are grouped or separate in the task bar. As a simple solution I suggest making the icon for the main Search All notes window visually distinct somehow, such as a different color. Another option is to alter the text somehow, perhaps by indenting it or putting a special character at the front.
This seems reasonable. I'll need to review the GNOME HIG to see if has anything to say about this. If you would like to do the research for me that would be lovely.
http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/icons-design.html.en Suggests making a functionally suggestive icon. For the search case there's already an established standard of using a magnifying glass. I believe we can combine this idea with the need to still look "like Tomboy" - for the Search All Notes window we simply replace the pencil with a small magnifying glass. That matches the icon pretty closely to the purpose of the window - searching notes.
I like this one too. I think we should use the same icon that is assigned in the task bar. Can we make this happen for 1.8.0?

I also want to point out we should do this with all non-note windows, preferences, sync dialog, about dialog etc.
The Tomboy team has moved from GNOME Bugzilla to GitHub for bug reports and feature requests: https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy/issues/ Closing this report as NOTGNOME as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping (bug 781054) to keep tasks in one place. Please feel free to transfer this task to GitHub if this task is still valid in a recent Tomboy version. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
