GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 618507
opera windowtitle upsets top panel
Last modified: 2010-05-13 06:36:33 UTC
Whenever I visit a site with a over long title, opera displays it at on the title bar. Gnome-shell then takes this title and tries to display it on the top. When the title is too long, like visiting grooveshark.com, then navigating to a different application. On return to opera, having the grooveshark.com tab open, Activities, the application title, time and my name turn to ... When the website title is a bit longer than usual, not too long, the time moves all the way to the right next to the sound icons, etc. I noticed that for firefox only Firefox Web Browser is displayed... so maybe you could do this for Opera, not showing the page title, just the application name.
Yes, the intended behaviour is like firefox: Gnome Shell is designed to be application based [1], right now we basically expect the WM_CLASS of the window to match the filename of the desktop file (without the .desktop extension). As a temporary workaround, you can find out the WM_CLASS using xprop and create a matching symlink - there are some changes underway which should make the connection of running processes to its desktop files more reliable.
