GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 605536
overly long window titles (and app names) cause problematic panel behavior
Last modified: 2010-05-26 17:27:49 UTC
When a window changes its title it is changed in alt-tab and overview correctly, but the title in the panel is still the previous one. When changing the focus to another application and switching back the title is correct. Steps to reproduce: 1) Open nautilus, it's title is shown in panel 2) Go to another folder in nautilus, the title of the window changes to the current folder, but not in the panel 3) Change focus to another application i.e the terminal and back to nautilus. Now the title is correct in the panel.
This is a real bug, but note that the window title isn't supposed to be showing in the panel, but rather the application name; it should show "File Manager" when you are working with a nautilus window. the problem is that your distribution doesn't include a desktop file for Nautilus, so the shell has to fall back to the window title.

Using Thunderbird 2, I see that the windows title and not the application name is used → many long entries in GS! If a window title really long, the panel buttons are draged to the sides an you can't read anything.
