GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 61786
IDEA: improve the path editing abilities
Last modified: 2004-06-12 18:01:12 UTC
currently it's not possible to undo an mistakingly edited path. it should be able to press ctrl+z to undo this. this is very nasty. also: it is very frustrating to get to know the load of key combinations to move paths. maybe an extra window with appropriate edit tools could be able to implement, or maybe it would be clever to swap the main toolbar widgets to path editing widgets when in path edit mode (you don't need other widgets in this mode - escape could leave the edit mode, and additionally a button on the toolbar would exit path-edit mode) it should be possible to have a seperate tool to draw non-bezier paths. for geometrical forms like rectangle, line, circle/oval, and polygon. text should be able to be converted to paths. don't know how far this is possible. all key combinations like copy, paste, and cut should be applicable to paths and nodes, in path-edit-mode. thats it, i hope this is of help to anyone.
Hmmm... Many suggestions in one bug report. See also bug #51108 for the problems with the key combinations that are hard to remember.
A "edit points only" mode for paths would be nice. I hate editing points and accidentally clicking too far from something and having GIMP create a point. Ugh. Also, when you close a curve, there is (AFAICT) no way to open it again. Oops, there goes all your work on that curve down the tubes. Maybe add a scissors tool which would let you cut a curve. Off in wishlist land, greater vector support in GIMP would be nice -- have paths stroked but still editable...

Changes at the request of Dave Neary on the developer mailing list. I am changing many of the bugzilla reports that have not specified a target milestone to Future milestone. Hope that is acceptable.
A lot of the ideas mentioned here have been implemented in the meantime. I suggest we close this report as FIXED. New reports for missing path tool features can then be opened if they aren't covered yet (see for example bug #115427).
Agreed. Closing. Most things are adressed now, especially Undo works now. Please feel free to open new bugs for the stuff not adressed yet.
