.config/banshee-1/log

Overview:
After I start Banshee and play any file (mp3, ogg, m4a, flac) the file will play for 0-2 seconds, then cease. If I press the skip button, or double-click another file, Banshee fades to gray and stays like that until I kill it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Play any file.

Build Date & Platform:
1.5.5-1~hyper1~karmic 11 MAR 2010 (from banshee-team/ppa) on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic x64

Additional Information:
I had the same bug with Songbird 1.4.3 which has a workaround of passing the SB_GST_NO_SYSTEM environment variable to songbird at startup. This has something to do with Songbird not playing well with gstreamer-ugly.
SB_GST_NO_SYSTEM=1 /usr/bin/songbird

hey Dan, that log didn't contain too much - maybe try running it twice before grabbing the log? And make sure to do it while Banshee is frozen

This bug may be a duplicate of this GStreamer bug.

I'm having the same problem with the daily it seems to only occur for FLAC files for me. The first song select will play fine however when it moves on to the next track the first second or so will play before stopping. Playback works fine if I redouble click the song.

I am also unable to skip FLAC files forward or backward using the seek-bar in the daily ppa version.

The log file only shows this as the error, sounds like something different to this bug report

[Warn 13:39:57.374] Seem to be stuck loading file:///media/Music/Every%20Time%20I%20Die/Every%20Time%20I%20Die%20-%20New%20Junk%20Aesthetic%20(FLAC)/04%20Every%20Time%20I%20Die%20-%20Wanderlust.flac, so re-trying

I have also noticed the Lastfm plugin doesn't seem to work in the PPA I have sign in errors in my log files. Banshee is already approved on my profile and had been working in previous versions.

I'm getting rid of the NEEDINFO status because Dan provided another log.

Dan, I just browsed through the gstreamer report that you linked to. It sounds like Banshee is working correctly for you now that you have an updated gstreamer, yes? Does this leave anything for Banshee to fix, or can this be closed (either as INVALID or NOTGNOME)?

Tony, assuming Dan's issue was related to gstreamer, can you try updating your gstreamer? It sounds like your problem with Flac files might be different though - if so, please file a new bug report for it. It's helpful to have one problem per report.

As for the other issues you mentioned... The inability to seek in flac files is Bug 587643, which has been fixed in the latest builds of Banshee. There's also an open report about Flac playback skipping: Bug 586976. There are several reports open about Last.fm and logging plays. See: Bug 553433, Bug 546846, and the most recent: Bug 613138. If these reports don't cover your issues, feel free to file new reports.

Hah, so I said I was removing NEEDINFO status because Dan provided the log, but then I asked another question. Setting back to NEEDINFO... ;)
Comment 9 Dan 2010-03-18 17:39:51 UTC
Michael, I'm convinced this is not a Banshee bug, so you can close it.
Comment 10 Michael Martin-Smucker 2010-03-18 18:00:48 UTC
Thanks Dan, closing as NOTGNOME then.

Tony, feel free to check out those reports I linked to, and file new ones if you can't find existing reports that match your issues.
