Description Tony Houghton 2010-02-14 14:44:45 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #609849 +++

There don't seem to be any options to configure which button is emulated by tapping with 2 or 3 fingers or by tapping in the corners. Please provide these options because I don't like the default settings and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to change them.

I think this is a duplicate of bug 603730.

We do want to provide some settings for multitouch. However, I think these will probably be mostly targeted at enabling/disabling a set of predefined gestures, and I don't think that tapping with 2 or 3 fingers will be something we want to support (it's a rather difficult action for many people; long press is a better fit for emulating the second mouse button).

There's no reason that there couldn't be a 3rd party configuration utility that would provide advanced settings for this, of course.

Yes, I think gsd already has an option not to manage the touchpad so that it doesn't clash with 3rd party managers, so fair enough. I'm not sure whether there is a manager that does what I want though. As it happens my main laptop now has one of those clickpads like an Apple, and I find 3 finger clicks are easier than taps, so I'm happy to live with the default settings.
