Description deep64blue 2009-12-02 09:59:22 UTC
The "Do Nothing" option for laptop lid close is now missing, this is a severe regression.

This commit (http://mail.gnome.org/archives/svn-commits-list/2009-July/msg05558.html) indicates that the option should appear when the user has explicitly specified this in GConf however:-

1) It doesn't work.

2) We shouldn't need users to hack about in GConf to get a sensible option listed.

I noticed that the option disappeared when I changed it to another action for the first time (on the `battery' tab of the power management dialog box).

After that, the option did not show any more at the drop down menu. But I was able to restore it by using gconf-editor and setting the associated value manually to `nothing'. After this edit, the `Do nothing' option reappeared in the drop down menu.

IMHO this is indicative of a problem in the code that controls the populating with items of the drop down menu. Since the `Do nothing' option is the very first one it may be that some boundary case needs to be fixed.

Having to keep the laptop lid open is a serious inconvenience for anyone using an external monitor. I noticed one of the developers filed a similar bug (Bug 617999) that could solve this one.

This is definitely confirmed here, running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and GPM 2.30.

My laptop is plugged in, and as you can see (in the attached screenshot) I've selected to "Do Nothing" when the lid of my laptop is closed. However, each time I close the lid, it goes into "suspend" mode. I've even set it to "Do Nothing" for both "unplugged" and "plugged". No matter what I select, when I close the lid, it goes into suspend mode.

Right now, I'm trying to watch a movie on my big screen tv (as a secondary monitor). I'd like to shut my laptops lid (powering its native monitor off), while the movie plays on the external TV monitor. However, I'm unable to do this because the gnome-power-manager won't honor the power settings as they are shown in the attached screenshot.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-power-manager/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
