GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 598551
Not clear how to connect using Xmpp-local account
Last modified: 2010-02-16 17:00:59 UTC
1. Create an Xmpp-local account in the accounts window. 2. Fill in your nickname. You can't connect. In fact, I discovered after multiple tries that you had to fill both first and last name (I spent 30 minutes trying to install all related libraries, thinking of a dependancy problem). I don't understand this obligation but it should be removed (at home, my first name is enough, thanks). If not possible, this should be clear and the user should be informed.
This obligation is because of crappy XMPP LL (iChat IIRC) who made these fields mandatory. That's why the "Connect" button is unsensitive until these fields have been filled. I'm open to suggestion to make this clearer in the UI. Maybe we could display a GtkInfoBar saying that these 3 fields are mandatory for interop reasons until they have been filled?
Closing as a dup of bug #599177 as this bug is really about making clearer with fields are mandatory. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 599177 ***
