Description Pierre-Yves C. 2009-10-09 09:54:22 UTC
In the current gnome I have saved a number of server I often connect to.
These servers appear in Places -> bookmarks nicely.

I now see in the Activities panel, in the Places section all the bookmarks I had locally (the html folder, the cgi-bin...) but not the bookmarks I had on remote server (fedorapeople...).
Are there plans to includes these bookmarks in the future ?

I found this feature pretty handy and wouldn't mind to keep it in gnome-shell (in the Places section or elsewhere).

Thanks

I can confirm that bookmarks to remote places do not show up in gnome-shell (I wonder if it's a side-effect of me filing Bug 604006 ? :) ...

I'd really like gnome-shell to be the opportunity to clean up the mess that was introduced circa GNOME 2.22, with the incomplete gvfs/gio migration that forced people to make "bookmarks" of remote places instead of having them behave as solid, mounted folders (see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/198857 ). Bookmarks can make sense to some extent if the current bug (597887) and bug 604006 are taken care of, though I'd like the gnome shell to make the "distinction" between remote and local bookmarks.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.

In this particular case, the Places view and all functionality related to bookmarks was removed from the Overview, so this bug does no longer apply.
