Description Josh Triplett 2009-07-15 08:06:18 UTC
Many people use a single folder to archive most or all mail. Various guides to email productivity (for instance, the popular "Inbox Zero") suggest this approach, with search replacing the need for multiple folders. I would like to have a convenient way in Evolution to move a mail to this archive folder.

The UI would consist of a single "Archive" toolbar button, and a corresponding keybinding.

To simplify configuration, I'd suggest prompting on first use of the button or keybinding if not yet configured, and offering a choice of folder to use. I'd suggest defaulting the dialog to a folder named "Archive", which seems a fairly common choice of name.

The configuration would also live in the account details, but prompting on first use makes the button more immediately usable and discoverable.

Reminds me of bug 581717.
Same bug for Modest at https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2585

Bug 581717 looks entirely unrelated. It appears to describe an approach to creating mail filters.

This bug relates to having a simple way to manually move mails to a dedicated folder.

And yes, same as the bug for Modest, and the same UI should work as well.

Tagging as enhancement and fixing component.

Adding myself to the CC list.

Also, google has it as well as Thunderbird 3.0 http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_3.0_-_New_Features_and_Changes#Message_Archiving_and_Folders for info on their implementation.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
