Description Andrea Corbellini 2009-05-07 09:46:11 UTC
Currently to create a filter you have two way:
1. "Edit" -> "Message Filters";
2. right-click on a message and select "Create Rule From Message" -> "Filter based on .*"

However when you have to create too many filters it is an hard thing to do and it takes too much time.
A better way to do that may be this:
1. say that you need to create a filter to move certain mails in an another folder;
2. move the mails to that folder;
3. in the future mails with similar subject, content or headers will be moved automatically in this folder, like Bogofilter or SpamAssassin do.

Where? How?
Comment 2 Andrea Corbellini 2009-05-07 14:36:25 UTC
Sorry, I was not clear. Please, ignore the first step. :-)

This is what I mean: when you want to put a mail in the Junk folder, you just have to press the Junk button. It would be great if to create a filter you just had to move one or more mail in a folder.

Still, how should that work? What is the User Interface?

If I was the user and the functionality that you want existed, what would be the exact steps that I had to take when I want to create such an easy filter?

Here is a use case.

Bob wants to put all mails coming from bugzilla in a folder called "Bugs". He puts the first mails he receive in that folder. Evolution understands that all these mails have in common the sender and the presence of the X-Bugzilla-* headers. When Bob retrieves new messages, Evolution checks for each new message if the sender is bugzilla and if the X-Bugzilla-* are present and, depending on the result, it moves the mails to "Bugs" or keeps the in the Inbox.

There isn't a user interface, maybe just some configuration options, but nothing else.

If there's no UI, then how could I stop this specific rule from being triggered, e.g. if don't want such Bug messages to be moved from Inbox anymore?
Comment 6 Andrea Corbellini 2009-05-07 18:00:51 UTC
Well, in theory it would be possible to view/manage automatically created filters using the existing UI (Edit -> Message Filters).
Comment 7 André Klapper 2012-02-14 11:16:12 UTC
This does not sound obvious at all to any user out there who once wants to move an email and then ends up having messages moved automatically. I see even more "Where is my mail?" questions on the mailing list (that we get anyway).

WONTFIXing, sorry. Not a very common usecase.
I agree making it easier would be great, but this needs to be more obvious.
