OK, so with 2.26.1 (as in Unbuntu jaunty), we _finally_ can pass control characters, but the technique is still obscure. At a minimum it should be documented that in order to send control characters, you need to turn off "Show Menu Shortcuts" under "Edit Preferences." This needs to be in the help file.

I might suggest that the preference item be changed to a radio button item with entries "Show Menu Shortcuts" and "Pass Control Characters" so that the choices are more clear.
