GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 583292
Evolution Addressbook view files include a NTFS not allowed character in Win32
Last modified: 2009-05-20 12:44:41 UTC
Please describe the problem: Evolution Addressbook view files include a NTFS not allowed character in Win32 I've found some evolution Addressbook view filenames that include the : (colon) character (Example custom_view file:___home_rigo_.evolution_addressbook_local_system.xml). As you know the colon character is not allowed in NTFS filenames in Win32. Thus, when these files are written to a NTFS formatted volume under Linux, it is not possible to read them using a Win32 Operating System. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a symbolic link (ln) from $home/.evolution to a directory in a NTFS formatted volume. 2. Set up Evolution for the first time 3. Use Evolution so that addressbook's view files are created. 4. Make an attempt to read the view files stored in the directory mentioned in step 1 from a Win32 Operating System. Actual results: Error: File not found. Expected results: Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: I need to constantly switch between different computers that have both GNU/Linux and Win32 Operating Systems. Using symbolic links I store Evolution user files on a USB external hard drive so that I can quickly and easily switch between computers.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 578828 ***
I have comment Bug #578828 is for the mailer component of the Windows Evolution release version 2.24 while Bug #583292 is for the Evolution Linux release version 2.26 in the Contacts component. Eventough the behaviour is related wouldn't be useful to consider them as separate bugs in order to increase the possibility that Linux Evolution contact component maintainers fix it?
