GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 578828
[Windows] Evolution can't create directory/path with colon (:) (port number)
Last modified: 2010-09-30 08:39:04 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. Dont send or get email messages 2. Cant create a directory using "." and ":" (dot and two dots) in Windows and Evolution try create the directory called "C:\Users\rivaldo\.evolution\mail\pop\rivaldo.ribeiro@pop.gmail:995:". 3. I cant find a way to change the directory name which Evolution need to use Stack trace: I was instaled Evolution 2.4 in my note with Windows Vista Home Premium. It install and work ok but cant get or send gmail messages. I did all Evolution/Gmail configurations and also let the ports allowed in my firewal but dont get messages or send too. I search a possible error and I notice a message of error while tell "Evolution cant create the directory C:\Users\rivaldo\.evolution\mail\pop\rivaldo.ribeiro@pop.gmail:995:". So I think it is the error because windows dont allow to use "." (dot) and ":"(two dot) in folders names. I attach the log error here to help. Please, do your have a fix to it? Or instructions to modify the directory where Evolution use? I waiting a rep´ly and hope it can be solved. Thanks in advance and my best regards Other information:

Workaround: Don't set a port number in the Account settings. I don't think the dot is an issue at all.

I have a comment. In bug #583292 I describe that I've found a related type of behavior in the Evolution Linux release version 2.26 in the Contacts component. I've found some evolution Addressbook view filenames that include the : (colon) character Example: (Example custom_view file:___home_rigo_.evolution_addressbook_local_system.xml). When these files are written to a NTFS formatted volume under Linux, it is not possible to read them using a Win32 Operating System. Bug #583292 was considered to be a duplicate of this one. However, Bug #578828 is for the mailer component of the Windows Evolution release version 2.24 while Bug #583292 is for the Evolution Linux release version 2.26 in the Contacts component. So, eventough the behaviour is related wouldn't be useful to consider them as separate bugs in order to increase the possibility that Linux Evolution contact component maintainers fix it?
