Cloning Evolution "Search Folders" feature is good idea of virtual directory functionality based on grouping files from search reults (or tracking it as search templates)

Based of Evolution info (with some changes ;)):

Search Folders are saved intelligent searches which can display groups of files according to user-specified criteria. Create Search Folders to combine disk resource from different locations into a single view.
