Description Matthew Buscemi 2008-11-13 01:05:09 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I got a pdf file in my email from a friend. Before sending it, he had highlighted several portions of the text in the PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro that he wanted to draw to my attention. Evince displays the highlighting, but over the text rather than under it. The result is that only the highlighting color can be seen and not the text underneath. If I attempt to select the highlighted text, it becomes visible, but only as long as that portion of text remains selected. If I deselect the text, the words become hidden behind the highlighting again.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Acquire a PDF file that had highlighting added with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
2. Open the PDF file in Evince.

Actual results:
I described the results above already.

Expected results:
I would expect the results to be the same as the situation I described above.

Does this happen every time?
I only have one file. But, every time I open it, the same thing happens.

Other information:
If you would like a copy of this file, I would have no problem sending it to you. It does not contain any sensitive information. My email address is ikimashoz@gmail.com.

I was also thinking, it would be great if there were some kind of tool that could add highlighting to PDF text in Evince. I'm in academia, and since most of the files I use for work are distributed using PDF, having the highlight function would come in very handy.

I can confirm this bug.
It showed up for me on the file "Alex Benzer - The Tao Of S*****l Dating For Men.pdf" from http://www.mininova.org/tor/2779391

It seems to work on okular no problem but the on evince the black text highlighted in yellow, which has a popup box too, is invisible.
