GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 558424
Add a "Time Machine-esque" function (see Time slider from Sun)
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:17:54 UTC
Open Solaris 2008.11 will have an automatic way to backup datas on the same disc called Time Slider : http://blogs.sun.com/erwann/entry/zfs_on_the_desktop_zfs Time slider is an extension for Nautilus. To allow backup on the same disc, it requires ZFS which can't be used in Linux world because of its licence. Later btfrs could work for that but it's still under development. Maybe Time slider could work with Linux FS like ext3 if another disc were used (i think that apple Time Machine works in pair with a separate hard drive) Therefore it will be great to have Time Machine on Linux using a second drive and that extension for Nautilus.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
