GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 555990
metacity is not launch when i choose 'automatically remember running application when logout'
Last modified: 2009-03-25 01:41:36 UTC
Please describe the problem: when i open gnoem-session-propertes, and got to 'session options' and then choose 'automatically remember running application when logout' then i relogin, metacity is not run: the window are not decorated with a title bar and can't be moved, there is only one virtual desktop when i go to a console, and run DISPLAY=:0.0 metacity --replace, it fixes the problem Steps to reproduce: 1. check 'automatically remember running application when logout' in gnoem-sesion-properties 2. logout 3. login 4. see that window are not decorated and metacity is not running 5. fix it from a console by running DISPLAY=:0.0 metacity --replace Actual results: Expected results: i except to have metacity running and windows to be decorated with title and such like anormal WM will do Does this happen every time? yes Other information: it's in gnome 2.22. i don't know for 2.24
to be more precise: it happened to me when i tested ubuntu (the latest stable i think -- the one with gnome 2.22) it happened too with fedora (the one with gnome 2.22 too) and now every time i login i do not have metacity running. it is not listed in gnome-session-preferences and i can't add it. even after i unchecked the 'automatically remember running applicaton' box. so i removed .gnome2/session to fix this (sight) i can't believe i am the only that have that bug on 3 different distros (the current one being archlinux with gnome 2.22.3)
session manamgement is a crap on gnome. is it broken again in gnome 2.24. this time metacity islaunched but no apps is remembered. bug #557430 wtf are you doing with session management ?
The bug tracking session saving issues in 2.24/2.26 is bug 552387. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 552387 ***
