GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 547740
Fast access to brightness/contrast
Last modified: 2008-08-29 00:08:31 UTC
Please make brightness, contrast etc. controls more accessible, through one or two clicks or like in Crystal Player, via OSD (on-screen display).
Suggestion for OSD (that was done in some old version of Crystal Player): 1. When user moves mouse to the left border of the screen, volume appears. 2. When user moves mouse to the bottom of the screen, rewind bar appears. 3. When user moves mouse to the top-left corner, "contrast", "brightness" buttons appear. When user press them, corresponding control bar appears on the left. All controls disappear automatically (they fade in Crystal Player).
I believe it was mentioned somewhere that we should move them to a sidebar. Should be pretty straight-forward.
I mean not side bars but appearing controls right on the screen where is movie being shown. Just like in TV set.
Except that computers have keyboards and mice. Your idea of the feature is more likely to be found in a set-top box/media centre setup, not in a desktop application like totem.
:D Yes, computers are not TV sets, they are movre powerful. I mean I suggest more convenient way to reach most popular controls during movie watching, especially in fullscreen. Not via right-clicking the screen and searching for the controls through menus but moving mouse to corners of the window ot the screen (if movie is being watched in fullscreen mode) to pop up required controls.
It's undiscoverable, and not easily accessible, so that's a no-no.
The suggested way does not replace other ways to reach the controls but exist along with other ways. In my experience it's more convenient way than I saw in other players.
