When importing large subdirectories (>45k files over a network connection) it takes a while before you get to see *anything* that the scanning is going in. Just showing the user how many files (or hundreds of files to not slow things down too much) would be sufficient to give the user the feeling something is going on. 

Other information:
Maybe even a progress bar simple bouncing left and right or something is enough ;)
