GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 533890

Last modified: 2008-06-09 04:56:29 UTC
Please describe the problem: I am hoping someone can help me. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with the tracker tool 0.6.6 and I use Evolution for my email 2.22.1. I have had a very strange error. Firstly I noticed a inbox.tmp file in evolution about a week ago. Tonight after switching on my notebook I noticed in the bottom toolbar fetching mail 312876... (This is not the exact number). This took about 5 minutes before it disappeared. (About a week ago the same thing happened. It ran for hours and then stopped. I think this is when the inbox.tmp appeared. Evolution has been fine since except the inbox.tmp was there. It appeared to have a mixture of emails. Deleted ones current ones etc. I did not touch this as I did not know what it did). After a while this finished and I saw in my inbox what appeared to be an auto delete happening. I have now lost half of my inbox emails. Also I now have emails that say that they are from a particular sender, however when I open the emails the email is actually from someone else. Very strange (i.e. the email labeled abc@123.com contains data from fred@hotmail.com). I used the tracker tool to locate a email that I know I had in my inbox. It found it but when I open it there is no information inside. It is totally blank. I figured that it must be a database error but have not been able to find any info on doing a re-index or repair. When the emails were deleted and mixed up the inbox.tmp disappeared. I have also re-indexed the tracker but no change. I have important emails that I need to retrieve. Can anyone help. Thank you in advance. Steps to reproduce: 1.Not Sure 2. 3. Actual results: Nil Expected results: Nil Does this happen every time? Only Once Other information:
What do you mean by auto delete. Surely Evo doesn't delete mails by itself. Also, if the mbox cache is corrupted, what the summary may mismatch the mail in the preview. But who corrupted the mbox is a question. I would suggest you to use Evolution with out tracker for a week or so and observer.
This has nothing to do with tracker, this is just a huge bug in Evolution.
Andre it isn;t a bug in Evo which corrupts the mbox, but the crashers that corrupt the mbox. Anyways, maildir movement should help. Meanwhile Im on the way to write a repair-folder plugin that can fix this on a click.
